Develop technologies for targeted biocatalysis for pharmaceutical, food and processing industries and agriculture;
Produce promising strains of microorganisms for soil bioremediation and its fertility recovery;
Identify biologically active substances from native and introduced plant types based on biotechnology methods;
Develop and improve plant cell breeding;
Create genetically modified microorganisms to be used in vaccine constructing;
Develop technologies for production of components for immune-diagnostic test-systems;
Develop technologies for targeted tumor medications based on genetic engineering and cell bioengineering products;
Develop technologies for production of therapeutic recombinant proteins and peptides in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells;
Assess the role of genetic and medium factors in forming of inherited and multifactorial pathologies;
Develop biopreparation technologies based on producents of biologically active substances for petroleum, chemical, agricultural and environment protection industries;
Develop new consortiums of microorganisms with the purpose of producing cultures for food, processing industries and agriculture taking into consideration ethno-cultural and regional peculiarities.
Materials provided contain interim research findings (Project: System Analysis and Forecast in Science and Technologies. Area: Biotechnologies).
Key goal of the research is develop targeted recommendations for science and technology development in Kazakhstan by 2030. Interim results include a Scenario for Biotechnologies in Kazakhstan until 2030. This Scenario is based on research and technical data analysis, state strategies and programs, analytical reports of lead local and international organizations, Big Four consulting companies and bibliometric and patent search results.
These efforts resulted in identified external and internal science and technology development trends in the area of Biotechnologies, key factors and their relation influencing on the future development, benefits and disadvantages and opportunities and threats from the external environment. The Scenario addresses Kazakhstan’s R&D competences, proposes strategies and measures in order to develop the direction and identify potential risks associated with implementation of this Scenario. The Scenario was discussed at expert panels and Round Tables involving a broad circle of experts (representatives of academic, scientific and business communities and state authorities).
